Contacting with water maybe cause opening on damaged area and water maybe include microorganism. For this thing don't contact the area with water for 3 days. Also you must banish an antibacterial creme on this area for 5-7 days and the area must be closed with badages or betafixes. You must do it at least three times in a day. After the first week do it openly for a week.
